What
do I need to do before I can start driving?
NOT
17 YET?
You
can't actually drive on the road until your
seventeenth birthday, but there are things you
can do now!
You
can apply for your provisional driving license up to three months before your seventeenth
birthday. You
can get the D1 application form from your local
Post Office or by phoning the DVLA direct on
0870 240 0009. The current cost is £45.
You
can prepare for your Theory Test by buying a
copy of The Highway Code and familiarising yourself with it. There are also many other
books and CDROMs to help you.
You
must also meet the requirements of the eyesight
test which is being able to read a number plate
at 20.5 metres (67feet approx.)
If
you are disabled and in receipt of disability
allowance at the highest rate, the minimum age
to learn to drive is sixteen years of age.
